About this deal

Yet you persist with the friendship, driven by the belief that letting it fade would be pretty much a crime against humanity.

Friendaholic by Elizabeth Day is a mix of self-help and nonfiction books as Elizabeth tells stories from her personal life when discussing different types of friendships. My only real problem with this book (other than the fact that I didn’t think it was possible for a person to have THIS many friends), is the amount of tangents and metaphors packed into each chapter. Her memoir, How To Fail: Everything I’ve Ever Learned From Things Going Wrong is a Sunday Times top 5 bestseller and has been described as ‘life-changing’ by critics.I bought this knowing Elizabeth Day from her podcasts—How to Fail and Best Friend Therapy, co-hosted with her best friend Emma Reed Turrell—and thought this would be a bright, breezy, insightful, witty and uplifting book that would leave me with a smile on my face, but probably wouldn’t register very highly on the Richter scale of Important Works of Psychology.

g. "double tap to like" and "ghosting" interspersed with interviews with friends about friendship e. I loved how Day approach this concept, from her early years through to today, and how her friendships (and many of the readers - well certainly me! I'd love to read a considered, thoughtful book on friendship by an author who really has something to say. She is the creator of the award-winning podcast How To Fail With Elizabeth Day , as well as co-host of Best Friend Therapy . For some reason, probably to do with your own fear of abandonment, you carry on going through the motions with what Day dubs “White Wine Wednesdays”. Her latest book is How to Fail, a chronicle of the life-lessons of failure based on her hit podcast.

Ultimately, like Elizabeth, friends are utterly integral to my life and to read such a positive book celebrating that platonic love was heart warming. She briefly pokes fun at the bromance, and goes on to say that the decrease in military participation has robbed men of the ability to have close physical relationships with other men. A generous, companionable guide to a part of life every bit as crucial – and as fraught – as romance or family. From exploring her own personal friendships and the distinct importance of each of them in her life, to the unique and powerful insights of others across the globe, Elizabeth asks why there isn't a language that can express its crucial influence on our world. AND THEN she referenced Anne of Green Gables which was the icing on the cake for me as that character means such a lot to me. In summary, you’ll end up wanting to be Elizabeth’s friend, but also being okay with the fact that that’s not going to happen.

The data is interesting if interpreted the right way but it's not useful if you just throw it out there without examining it properly. I can’t think of a better guide to opening up the discussion of all those relationships that, after all, massively outnumber our romantic and, for most of us, family connections.I learnt so much about myself reading this and was particularly moved reading Elizabeth’s heartbreaking account of her fertility journey - I felt seen and heard.
