About this deal

Velvety, black fruit Alicante plays a minor role in many of Portugal’s reds, but José Neiva Correia decided to give it centre stage. Inky black Alicante Bouschet is usually found in Portuguese red blends, there to add deep colour and black fruit flavours. In Lisboa, the Alicante Bouschet, whose spiritual home is the warmer Alentejo, develops a more stalky character with considerable acidity. We’re a little less rock ‘n’ roll than one man in a van these days, but we still go direct to the producers and still know every single one of them personally. Here, he keeps a watchful eye on the vineyards, where plenty of sun and cooling Atlantic breezes help grapes ripen slowly, boosting the development of aromatic and flavor complexity.

During the whole fermentative process, pumping over 2 times per day, using each time half of the volume contained in the vat. It’s rare red flesh bestowing a depth of colour and intensity other grapes do not match, making a perfect blending partner to lighter grapes. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. The Alicante Bouschet grapes grow at José’s Quinta do Porto Franco estate, 40 miles north of Lisbon. Aluado 2019 is a rich, velvety red, great solo or served with roast meats (try lamb or pork) or a herby casserole. They said he was 'aluado' ('loony') but the ever inventive José Neiva Correia has proved his doubters wrong. A long avenue of trees lead up to the main entrance of the fabled and historical estate of Quinta de Porto Franco, a low and long building with the traditional profile of estate residences in the Lisboa region of Portugal.Alicante Bouschet produces some of the world’s deepest coloured wines and is often used to enhance Portugal’s top reds.

After the alcoholic fermentation, the cap is plunged for 30 days, and during that period, extraction of the gentle tannins is conducted, along with the malolactic fermentation and the natural stabilization of the wine.

The wine Maker is Jose Neiva Correia, who’s known in Portugal as MISTER WINE, and is owner with his brothers and sisters and is Chief wine maker at DFJ Vinhos. The 2018 Reserva was thick black with little or no light getting through, more "body" than the 2021.
