About this deal

Since Byrne was on the book so long, he effectively also became the steward of the FF's main adversary, Doctor Doom. Victor being a sort of sociopath with most people works fine enough but his antagonism with Reed Richards comes pretty much out of nowhere and for something that is supposed to be so integral to his character this is not set up well at all. It's a fascinating read as all Origin stories should be, it's just a shame that it's fallen out of print in the UK. Victor began studying the magic arts, believing that his destiny was to find his mother and rescue her from the hellish torment she now endured at the hands of the demon. Description was fairly accurate but I wish the seller had been a bit more descriptive of the damage to the item.

Roger is just an ordinary boy, in an ordinary world – or so he thinks, until a grumpy dwarf warrior, Mossbelly MacFearsome, appears out of thin air and saves him from the school bully. The book deals with the origin of the character who I think is surely one of the most badass villains in Marvel history. You might consider Mephisto a cameo too, but he actually figures in the plot, so while he doesn’t appear that much, he really is more of an antagonist. The issue begins with the final battle to take the throne and it diverges a bit from the way it was told Doom's solo series in Astonishing Tales. Brubaker pretty much hits the nail on the head with this book and it’s a real treat for a fan of Doom to sit and have this comprehensive origin story. The atrocities of the Baron, the death of Von Doom's mother, his relationship with Valeria - all explored very well. Uma versão bastante interessante da origem de Dr Destino, mostrando que seus "poderes" vem tanto do seu intelecto para a ciência e do estudo das artes místicas. Pablo is pretty much a dead ringer for the combined efforts of both David Finch and Bryan Hitch, and he’s right up with them and that style of art in my opinion. I think Brubaker must have had that story in mind because in Simonson's story, Doom says something about saving the parts from this model because it functioned at a higher level than the others.

Altho most of the work I've read from him is street level down and dirty mystery type stuff, I think he could pull off a title of a more epic scale like FF. There's a bit with a demon, there's magic and technology and war-torn Eastern Europe and for a while it all goes a bit Dr Strange and/or Ra's Al Ghul in Tibet. The art is decent, and definitely focuses on Victor and his transformation to Doctor (funny enough, he never actually earned that degree, because he was booted after the experiment which left his face (and psyche) scarred). Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, " X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss. It was Doom’s mother that introduced him to the use of mystical powers, but she traded her soul to Mephisto for the use of it.That's fine and good, but considering what Brubaker was doing on Captain America while this mini-series was being released, the end result is a little disappointing. In fact a lot is not explained here, like all the resources Doom had in his gypsy caravan, to the “Baron”, to Tibet, to pretty much everything.
