About this deal

I did however change one of the words describing some Siamese cats ('Chinks') which is not a word I'd want my grandchildren to use! Dicen que tal vez se referia a ciertos personajes de su tiempo, tal vez a nosotros mismos, y hasta que hacia referencias a las creaciones de Kipling y Conan Doyle. This version invariably has me singing along to the rhyme on the pastel coloured dust-jacket of this gorgeous hardcover copy, every time I pick it up:🐈 ‘Jellicle Cats come out to-night‘Jellicle Cats come one come all:The Jellicle Moon is shining bright ~Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball. I have craved world building, esoteric codes, political machinations, something to offset the Bob Corkers of my mind. It became the longest-running Broadway show in history until it was overtaken by another musical by Lloyd Webber, The Phantom of the Opera.

She grew up by the sea, on the south coast of England, spending most of her childhood reading, writing, drawing and running wild. Later the Old Man refers to one cat in particular, "Gus", short for "Asparagus", and goes on to recite parts of "Macavity: the Mystery Cat".At about the same time another English composer, Humphrey Searle, composed another narrated piece based on the poems, using flute, piccolo, cello and guitar. It would be more interesting in a picture book if there were more interaction between text and illustration, even for classics like this. I was very young and not a fan at poetry at all when I went to see it first and it wasn't until a friend told me recently that I even knew this book existed. I especially loved “The Rum Tum Tugger,” about a contrary cat who always wants what he can’t have and never wants what he’s offered: “When you let him in, then he wants to be out; / He’s always on the wrong side of every door.

Occasionally he illustrates individual lines, such as the fakir who stares at Macavity when he levitates.Scheffler's illustrations are kid-friendly but yet they don't condescend or become overly cute and childish. The fourteen original poems tell an organized story with the first poem, "The Naming of Cats" setting the stage and the now penultimate poem, "The Ad-dressing of Cats" summarizing the story and bringing matters to a close. This is a gorgeous book and the full colour illustrations by Axel Scheiffer are what distinguishes this volume from every other Possum's. Featuring Macavity, the Mystery Cat; Mr Mistofelees, the Original Conjuring Cat; Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer and all the gang, this is a must for every child's bookshelf and is a great companion to the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage show. Eliot is known for masterworks of poetry like The Waste Land, but somehow also the author of this delightful collection of cat poems.

S. Eliot's classic and delightful collection of poetry about cats, with whimsical illustrations by Edward Gorey. De hecho tiene tres: el que le dan y todos conocen, después uno peculiar que le da orgullo, y luego está aquel, el secreto, que solamente éste conoce. thanks to my Mum, I know now that this collection of fun and light-hearted poems on cats inspired the famous musical Cats.

Despite this, it takes someone older to understand the eccentric brilliance of this darling little book. To celebrate Old Possum's 75th anniversary we have commissioned lively new illustrations from Rebecca Ashdown for T.

I also like his sequence of pictures that play like a succession of scenes when the poems can't provide any words. This book is a good way to introduce TS Eliot's poetry to young children as the illustrations make it more interesting and fun.The acclaimed poet of The Waste Land, Four Quartets, and Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, among numerous other poems, prose, and works of drama, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948. If you are still in the habit of reading to your children then I urge you to treat yourself and them with this lovely book. Second, I adopted a pet cat -- a little calico -- some months ago after more that 15 years without one. there are so many famous names here and not just made famous from the likes of Elaine Paige but the fact that many of the names have now seeped in to common culture. I’m not sure the CGI is entirely convincing, as these cat-human hybrids seem much more of the latter than the former (the meowing is definitely unconvincing; Dame Judi Dench throwing a ham bone made me guffaw out loud).
