About this deal

Craig and Mulrooney’s “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is not without some weaknesses, however. The authors are slightly inconsistent in recipe detail with some reading as vague while others are overly detailed. For example, four different methods for pasta dough production in a single recipe using a variety of kitchen gadgets are not unusual while the next recipe may essentially be two steps. The recipes would have also benefited from additional information such as listed prep/cook times at a glance and nutritional facts. Even though “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” doesn’t diminish in value without these supplements; they would have strengthened the collection. Fry patties: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat for 1 minute. Place the hamburger patties onto the skillet, leaving space between them. (Cook patties one at a time if both won’t fit in your skillet at once.) After 3 minutes, flip the patties. Cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Add a cheese slice to each patty, if desired. Let patties sit in skillet for an additional 2 minutes. Place each patty on a bun, and serve with grilled onions and sautéed mushrooms, below. Now, this is a true recipe book. The recipes are based on the show. Sure you’d be fine with the cookbook even if you never watched the show, as long as you eat like a Gilmore, or a Sookie, or a Mrs. Kim. I ummed and aahed about getting this because I'd read Eat Like A Gilmore, but I love how pretty this looks on my bookshelf in my growing 'official' cookbook collection. The first chapter is based on Luke's Diner. This chapter features the classic Hot Fudge Sundae with grapefruit on the side, Luke’s Special Omlet, the hilarious but yummy Santa Burger, the well-named named Danish Day-Danishes, and the yummy Ceasar’s Chilequiles, which I’ve made and recommend.

There are tons of recipes I want to try and feed to my family. I adore the quotes from the series and the pictures from the show. Let’s just say I was super happy on Christmas morning when I unwrapped one of my presents and realized I got this book from Santa. I adore Gilmore Girls. I watched the series faithfully as a teenager and love re-watching it as an adult. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I saw that there was a Gilmore Girls cookbook coming out. Any fan of the show will know how important food talk is in this series. This book is everything I could have hoped for. MORE THAN 50 RECIPES: Dozens of recipes for Stars Hollow favorites from Sookie’s Risotto to Luke’s Cheeseburger. The cookbook is among the latest show-inspired merch to arrive. An official collection of cosmetics and hair accessories was released last year at Ulta. I also appreciated how the authors listed the people of Stars Hollow since the rapport and chemistry of the actors and their characters also contributed to the success of the show. Nearly 15 years have passed since the hit show aired its final season in 2007 but it boasts impressive lasting power with the original fans that watched from the beginning, in addition to a new cohort that were introduced to the the beloved Gilmore clan and their rapid-fire dialogue when it hit Netflix in 2014. Kim ate. I thought she was nuts. She was, but now I at least eat like her. So her recipes were a win and a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect to find them within. But the Non-Mrs. Kim recipes also surprised me as I can alter them in some way. Dear reader, I’m not proud to say that my first reaction to this information was fear. Change is tough for me, and while this is happy news, it also represents such a massive change that I almost didn’t know how to process it. Though the circumstances were quite different, I found myself unmoored in much the same way I did in those days when Gilmore Girls first entered my life.

Sure, a Harvard sweatshirt might be right for the earlier season, but true fans know that the correct answer for where Rory will go to college is Yale. Go bulldogs. And then, just as I was about to start cooking, and in what I’d like to think is a truly Amy Sherman-Palladino-appropriate plot twist, something in my life changed drastically. I learned that I’m pregnant. Watching the show, I had always thought of myself as a Rory: bookish, ambitious, maybe a little self-absorbed. All of a sudden, I’d Freaky Friday-ed into Lorelai; still a little self-absorbed, but now I needed to be the grown-up in the room—even if, most days, I still feel entirely like a teenager. Lorelai and Rory were often mistaken for sisters, and not just because Lorelai was 16 when she had her daughter. Lorelai’s comfy but chic style is the stuff of mom goals everywhere, so it’s no wonder that Rory sometimes raided her closet. Invoke her fall style as you too wait for the first big snowfall with an oversized knit sweater that easily transitions into the winter season with the addition of a scarf and boots.

The Sweet Magnolias Cookbook: More Than 150 Favorite Southern Recipes

The recipes are broken down according to location; from what the Dragonfly Inn would offer (fancy dishes thanks to Sookie) to what you'll find at Luke's (lots of coffee, pancakes, burgers and fries) or at the Gilmore girls (lots of frozen foods). Let’s be clear, I’m no teenager. I’m now several years older than Lorelai was in the first season of Gilmore Girls, but I still feel as though I’ve got a long way to go in terms of building a life with the same stability as hers. It’s a common refrain for millennials; we without pensions or houses of our own or hopes of retirement. There are very good reasons so many of us in the Rory generation are skipping having kids at all.
