First of all, plastic handles much better in extremely cold weather conditions, while metal gets too cold to touch with bare hands. It is designed to withstand tough weather and is well-protected on the outside against dust and moisture. Inevitably the sharpness conversation will draw comparisons to other lenses, and in the case of the Nikkor 35mm these comparisons often take the form of the Nikkor 35mm F/2. Indeed, priority is given to manual override when in autofocus mode, signified by the M/A M lettering above the auto/manual focus switch.

The dock is only compatible with Sigma lenses (and not all Sigma lenses at that), but if you have multiple lenses that work with the dock, one dock will serve all those lenses. Our visual attention is around 55 °, not including peripheral vision, and the angle of view of a 35mm on a full frame camera body is 63 °. However, I like to create a variety of styles during a portrait session and I find my 35mm lens provides pleasing alternatives.I haven’t shot them side by side, but I really feel like the Sigma is every bit as fast and accurate as the native Nikon 35mm f/1.

I slap that lens on a late model film SLR from time to time, but the modern form factor is a turn off after primarily shooting an AE-1 or even FTB with a 50mm 1. So when I saw some really good portrait and wedding photographers raving about their Sigma lenses, I was skeptical at best. If ensuring my lens was compatible with all Nikon/Canon bodies well into the future, I’d also get a native lens.Although there is no Z-mount version of this amazing lens, it adapts very well with the FTZ adapter. While some photographers really praise the older 105mm f/2 DC as a portrait lens, after trying both out, I can tell you that there is simply no comparison – the newer f/1. it still should work almost as well in most scenarios, especially with the additional stabilization provided in Nikon Z-cameras.

I have not been very happy with that lens due to its rather poor wide open performance, especially on high-resolution cameras. Its maximum performance is achieved at f/4, with the lens showcasing excellent performance at the edges of the frame. This lens was offered (with minor advancements and changes throughout it’s run) in every Nikon manual focus mount, including pre-AI, AI, and AIs.Since the lens is of rear focus design, the rear lens element moves while focusing and there is a little gap between the moving element and the back of the lens. Having a similar field of view to what we see naturally also helps structural photos look more natural.
